We Have a Builder!
We have a builder and I really feel as if I made a great choice with Bassi. I had the pros and cons conversation end of last week with our adjuster and assessor. This builder said he could start immediately and was large enough with staff to do it and, well, talk about hitting the floor running! This morning I went to the house to pick up a few things and as I turned the corner, the amazing feeling of elation that hit as I saw numerous trucks lining the street with our contractor company name on it was indescribable! I drove into the driveway and had a few workers wave at me, but when I walked into the house and saw people everywhere, well — there are no words. They were packing more stuff up, protecting all surfaces and containing the areas they wanted to protect.
The emotion that hit was overwhelming.
Finally!
I can't begin to tell you what it felt like to know that the work is now on its way. There's a lot to do, yes, but they're doing everything they can, dealing with the horrible weather to work from the inside out wherever possible. They're working with care and respect.
I went back this afternoon to see what was what and the difference was incredible!
The two workers who were still there shared with me that they know it's difficult having strangers in all areas of the house, that it's in such a state, but assured me that it will be fixed and I'll love what it looks like in the end. My answer was, "You're good people and will treat it well."
Intuitively I knew that. I can't say why, but I really believe that. It's more than a roof, rooms and 4 walls and furniture. Each room holds so many memories! The kitchen where I made my son and daughter-in-law's wedding cake for hours upon hours is now stripped and bare. The table where we were sitting and having dinner when I had to tell my kids that I had cancer and what was ahead. The one end of the table where I would sit for hours on end painting porcelain to de-stress. All that had happened inside my son's Michael's old bedroom, and painting murals on walls that are damaged now. Every room has a myriad of stories that come to mind whenever I enter them.
Those stories are our lives from ends to new beginnings; celebrations and tears to stimulating conversations and laughter. I can't wait to have all that back! I can't wait to see all my neighbours back. The trees, well, we'll plant and grow new ones. It'll look different but the spirit will be stronger than ever. Ray and I have a lot to celebrate, a day at a time.
Today is another beginning.
